Layer Alias confusion?!?
Setting up a project you can define the Layer Aliases in the Create Project (or later in the Modify Open Project) dialog. Moreover, layer aliases can be altered in the View Settings and in the Source View.
In this example the following screenshot shows exactly this. A new project where the default Layer Aliases naming (black) was changed to:
- Scene Layer 1
- Scene Layer 2
- Scene Layer 3
When loading a Rule Set, those Layer Aliases will be adjusted to the layer alias definition of the Rule Set. The Rule Set Aliases will replace the Scene Aliases. However, the Scene Aliases are not removed, they are still there, but only one Alias is displayed in the View Settings!
In this second Screenshot you see the situation after loading a Rule Set with saved Layer Aliases (orange):
- RS Layer 1
- RS Layer 2
- RS Layer 3
Those Aliases are displayed in the View Settings after loading it into the same project. The Scene Layer Aliases (black) are still defined and not lost, as you can see in the Image Object Information Window!
RS Layer 1 and Scene Layer 1 are actually displaying exactly the same feature value for an object. The reason for this is, that those aliases are referring to the same input layer. To understand the connection between aliases and layers, please see and manage the aliases here:
PROCESS 🡪 EDIT ALIASES 🡪 IMAGE LAYER ALIASES
This window allows you to manage your image layer aliases. You see which aliases are defined in the project and to which layers they are referring. You can rename, remove layer aliases and also assign layers to them using this interface. To prevent confusion with Layer Aliases, please use this interface to make sure that the aliases are named as you expect.
Additionally the saving of aliases in a Rule Set can be turned off under:
TOOLS 🡪 OPTIONS 🡪 Save layer assignment with the Rule set
If you set this to "No" the aliases won't be stored in the Rule set, and therefore also won't alter the layer aliases when loading this Rule set.
